In at the Driskill

These past few weeks have really been busy. I’ve been working my butt off trying to meet with wedding coordinators and wedding locations, all in an effort to get my name out there and become more and more well know in Austin. Well, I finally cracked one that I had been trying for months. I met with Emily Taylor, the event coordinator at the Driskill Hotel. The Driskill is one of the premiere locations for weddings here in Austin, so I was very excited to meet someone there and start a relationship. Emily was really gracious with her time, she […]

I Was Kicked Out Of The Tribeza Bridal Show!

It’s amazing that in this day and age of openness and businesses helping other like businesses grow, that there still exists an underlying current of jealousy, and pettiness. I was asked by my good friend, Carissa Hoop at Flora & Fauna, to take pictures of her floral arrangements at the Tribeza Bridal Show at the very nice Stephen F. Austin Intercontinental Hotel. I spent about an hour or so taking pictures of Carissa’s super cool Pavé ball flower arrangements, I grabbed a model, from Ann Kelso Salon, named April, who was wearing a fabulous dress from Alexia Gavela, and took […]

Together at last… Super 8mm & Wedding Photography

Well, I have been going on and on about the new Super 8mm cameras I’ve been playing with. I’ve even put some test footage of the dogs up. And now it’s time to unveil the results from the last wedding I did. For the technical people out there: Still cameras used: Nikon D300, Fuji S2 Pro Super 8mm cameras used: Bell & Howell Film: Plus-X, Tri-X, and Extachrome Photo slideshow was created in Keynote and exported to Final Cut where it was combined with edited clips from the Super 8 footage. My good friend Humberto Perez came up with the […]

Marlene & Brian’s Wedding

Marlene and Brian were married on October 12th at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden here in Austin. Umlauf had recently installed a new and very lovely ceremony area at their facility, and I was fortunate to be one of the first photographers to shoot there. The wedding coordinator was Carissa over at Flora & Fauna. She put together a first class production with incredible detail and a warm, highly enjoyable energy. The musicians were Angelic Strings which played the ceremony on harp and violin. Michael from Angelic Strings actually started the ceremony off with a call to the guests with his […]

Marlene’s Bridal Session | Umlauf Sculpture Garden

I had never been to the Umlauf Sculpture Garden before, but driven by many times on my way to Barton Springs. But when my new client Marlene mentioned she was going to be married there, I jumped at the chance to do a Bridal Photography session there. The grounds are beautifully done, with much of the landscape left untouched and just a pathway winding through the facility. The path is broken up by sculptures the Umlauf Trust has collected, ornamental plants, and a pond. The image here was done almost as our session was done. Marlene was about to go […]

7 “Before the Wedding” Steps that Initiate a Successful Marriage

I was doing some blog surfing this morning and found this great article on 7 “Before the Wedding” Steps that Initiate a Successful Marriage. It is, for the most part, a very logical look at the “when”, “how” and even the “why” of getting married. But I think that people in love are hardly ever logical when thinking about their love or commitment to each other. One thing that most people will agree on is that they really only want to get married once, and it would be a huge blow to you and your future mate to need counseling […]

Facing Debt after your Wedding

Knowing all to well about the difficulties of dealing with debt, from Heather’s and my own experiences, I figured I would share some advice for those that are newly married or are planning a wedding soon. Our debt load isn’t a tremendous amount, compared to some. We have about $15,000 in credit card debt and 2 years and 3 years left on our car payments. (I’m not including our home mortgage). But if you think about the amount that goes to paying the bills every month it is downright sickening and depressing. Considering the monthly payments suck so much out […]

David’s Bridal out in force

It’s that time of year again. The annual onslaught of the Bridal Gown sales. I have been seeing David’s Bridals quite often and I hopped over to their website today and they have some pretty good deals for the budget minded bride. Their wedding dresses start at $99 and wherever you can find a deal you should go for it. For Heather’s and my wedding she had a costume designer friend make her favorite dress from a magazine as a favor. For the cost of materials – maybe $40 – she had an amazing dress. I grabbed our photographer’s camera […]

John + Cameryn | Ramona, CA Wedding

I met John and Cameryn last year. They own a massage and healing center in here in San Diego and are freakishly in love with each other. When they asked me to be their wedding photographer I was more than honored. The wedding was quite an affair. John’s parents offered to hold it on their private estate in Ramona which is about 30 minutes from the center of San Diego. They grow Protea flowers on the big farm, and the whole area is beautiful and lush with all kinds of greenery everywhere. Wandering around the place was like walking through […]

Robert + Megan | San Diego Wedding | Four Seasons Aviara

I’ve been waiting for this for months! Robert + Megan’s wedding has finally come. I had a ton of fun with them when I [intlink id=”engagement-photography-usd-campus” type=”post”]photographed their engagement session in July[/intlink]. It was the biggest wedding I’ve photographed yet, and they went all out. The Four Seasons Aviara Club House on the golf course. It was a beautiful fall afternoon. What color we do get in San Diego was on display in golds, and oranges. And Megan and Robert’s friends and family were assembled en masse. As an aside… I’m also starting to develop a theory that all make-up […]
