When I was a kid, me and my friends would ride our bikes, and explore the entire Imperial Beach estuary. To us, it was nothing other than a big muddy, swampy playground with lots of tall reeds. We’d play hide and seek, have dirt clod fights, attempt to cross the small tidal streams, and subsequently getting stuck in the anaerobic mud.

All that time spent down there, the beauty would become ingrained in my subconscious, and I would be drawn decades later to come and seek out the marine layer and muted colors of the life that teems in that big, muddy playground.
