I believe Gaviota is Spanish for “Windiest place on the planet!”

Gaviota State Park is the last beach as you drive North from Santa Barbara, before you hit the tunnel from “The Graduate” movie, and go inland towards Lompoc and Vandenberg Airforce base.
It’s a beautiful spot, and the hills surrounding the area are wonderful for hiking. Nothing but tall grass and oaks dotting rolling hills, the Central Coast is famous for.

But if you ever camp there, bring a heavy duty tent that’s capable of gale-force winds. The night I stayed there, not only did my tent break, but I woke up with the tent fabric clinging to my face, having snapped the tent poles!

I did manage to get this shot of delicate afternoon light gracing this stand of lifeguard towers. So it wasn’t a total loss.
