Big Sur and Bixby Bridge
I love driving along the cliffs of Highway 1 in the winter. In my opinion, that’s the best time to experience Big Sur. The big Pacific storms slamming their huge waves against the sheer granite western face of California. Getting out of the car to take a photograph will either result in a beanie flying away in the harsh winds, or being drenched by a passing rain squall.
Then, to get the photos you really want, it requires edging up to those sheer cliffs. The same ones that drop 500 feet to the hypothermia inducing waters, churning on the rocks below.
It’s the thrill to be out in those elements, and of course coming home with a photo like this, that make it all worth it.
