Blog

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I’m writing this post watching the Monday Night Football game, all bundled up, very sick with the flu after my trip to Texas, (wow, I hope it isn’t the swine flu…) It was a very difficult week with only one day of rest, but very rewarding. Despite coming ill, I feel that during this past week I’ve produced the best work of my life. That being said, I’d like to take the time to say “Thank You” to a number of people that made my trip, and the soon to come photos, possible. First and formost I’d like to thank […]

Print Merit, Austin Next Week, and Amazing Dresses

PPSDC Print Merit Last night was the bi-monthly Professional Photographers of San Diego County print competition night. I had entered a photo I took while in Telluride, CO a couple weeks ago. If you follow the blog, you might have seen another version of it in another post. Well it received a “Merit” last night at the competition, which means that it scored at least an “80” from the judges on the panel. And believe me… These guys are TOUGH! The judging is the same level as the national PPA judging, so now I have a good idea of how […]

A Snowy Telluride Morning

I recently went on a road trip with a dear friend of mine to Telluride, Colorado. She was going to be assisting at a Ashtanga Yoga workshop, and I wanted to hit the road and do some shooting. This lovely morning I woke up to a dusting of snow on the sidewalk and it was on! I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I did taking them.

Seth, Jess & little Jaiden

I know Jessica through my best friends Chris and Tanya. Jessica is their cousin, whom I met years ago when Chris and I lived next door to each other downtown. She’s always been a warm, friendly and intelligent person, and I always enjoyed talking to her when she came by. Oh… and then there was the time when she double dog dared me to do the Running Man on top of a table at Chris’s wedding. Well, Jessica has gone on to build herself an amazing family with her husband Seth, a really incredible guy, and their newest addition, their […]

New T-Shirt and New Cause

As many of you know, I was a volunteer in Thailand after the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004, and was there for a year helping build houses amongst other things. And when I heard about the earthquake off Samoa and the impending tsunami that was likely coming, I could only think of the destruction I saw while in Thailand and knew what was in store for the Samoans. In light of the damage that has happened to Samoa and American Samoa, I have decided to offer a $4 discount on all T-Shirts and apparel at my CafePress store through November […]

Epic Saturday

My dear friend Marne and I had a great time this past Saturday out in the mountain area of San Diego. She was feeling the itch to get away from the city for a bit, and I having spent the last 4 1/2 years where there are no mountains, I was up for it too. We started out with a great hike along the Pacific Crest Trail up near Mt Laguna. The views down to the desert from 6,000 feet are captivating. Afterwards, we were considering another hike, but I was starting to get a couple blisters. I had been […]

Mike and Erin’s Wedding on YouTube

I’m starting to love YouTube! I know… I’m just now catching up with the 21st century. Maybe I’ll even get one of those Cellular phones everyone is talking about now. Here’s a slideshow of a recent wedding with Mike and Erin I just uploaded to YouTube. If you’re a regular reader you may remember them as the couple with the [intlink id=”swamis-beach-wedding” type=”post”]tandem surfers in one of their photos[/intlink] at their beach wedding. This is the kind of slideshow that all my clients receive. (but much higher quality, and on DVD). Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Heeding My Own Green Advice

With my recent blog topics on [intlink id=”standards-green-photographers” type=”post”]Greening the Photography Industry[/intlink], I’ve decided that I should practice what I preach. I have never made claims to be a Green Photographer, to the contrary, I have outright stated that I wasn’t and I’m very open about not being a very eco-friendly person. But the more I thought about the topic, the more it occurred to me that I may be losing people with my message, by not practicing what I preach. I wasn’t looking for anything more than a gripe session and being critical of others in my first post […]

Standards for Green Photographers

How to make Wedding Photography Green It seems I got some Photographer’s knickers in a bunch with a post about how we as [intlink id=”green-wedding-photography” type=”post”]wedding photographers and the photography industry in general fail in the realm of environmental responsibility[/intlink], and how their are a few Photographers that take advantage of the word “Green” in their marketing. Most of the upset e-mails and comments I got were from photographers that do quite a bit in their lives and business to reduce their carbon footprints. But there were two points that were obviously lost on them: My problem isn’t with those […]

I won Best of Class Award for one of my Albums

Nudity must sway judges. I’m really just kidding, but there were three guys and two gals on the judging panel at last night’s PPSDC Print/Album competition. I had entered one of my Leather Craftsmen albums that showcases a series of highly unique [intlink id=”san-diego-portrait-gallery” type=”page”]Fine Art Portraits[/intlink], a few of which were full nudes. So maybe they were swayed a little. 🙂 (One interesting thing of note, the other albums that were entered were Leather Craftsmen too. I keep telling everyone they’re the best around, go check out their stuff and then give them a call.) I didn’t do so […]
