Fun With Photography

I’ve had an idea I’ve been toying with in my head for awhile, and I wanted to try it in real world application. Yesterday was a gorgeous day here in San Diego, perfect for a day of fun experimentations. I grabbed my big tripod and headed out to Sunset Cliffs to play in the afternoon light. My experiment was with Neutral Density Filters. ND Filters (for short) are simply filters that block a certain amount of light while taking a photograph. That allows the photographer to make very long exposures during the day which could be used to indicate a […]

Come See Me Talk About WordPress

I’m very excited to be putting together my very first speaking gig. I will be speaking to the Professional Photographers of San Diego County on December 7th from 9am-5pm. I’ll be covering a lot of information about blogging in general, how to get started, the benefits to WordPress as your blogging and website engine, search engine optimization, and quite a bit more. I will also provide a critique and comment period on the attendees websites and how they can improve their site, blog and search engine rankings with easy tweaks. Whether you are a wedding photographer, portrait photographer or anything else, […]

September PPSDC Print Competition

Print competition is here again. Yay!!! At PPSDC (Professional Photographers of San Diego County), we hold 5 print competitions per year with a full panel of Master PPA Judges. And I truly love submitting my work, and hearing the critiques and discovering where I can get better in my photography. And this year, it just so happens that I am responsible for putting the whole thing together… Yikes, what a responsibility! This year also happens to be a unique transition period, in which the Board has made the decision to convert over to digital display rather than actual prints. There […]

I’m the new 2nd Vice President of PPSDC

When I moved back to San Diego, I made a conscious effort to find the local PPA affiliate. I felt after my experience in Austin, at the APPA, that it was super important to find other Photographers and develop relationships with them. It’s only through each other that we grow, and push each other and excel at our craft. When I found The Professional Photographers of San Diego County, I knew I had found the right spot. They are the San Diego guild for the PPA (Professional Photographers of America), and dedicated to education, maintaining professionalism in the industry, and developing the skills of […]

Untouchable. Aka: Paul Caponigro’s Bride

I’ve had an overwhelming response to my last post about my entry in the latest PPSDC print competition. Some of it was very supportive and some was very critical about my comments and unprofessional attitude towards losing the print competition. I believe both ends have very valid messages. I will admit, I was very frustrated and upset over losing, but I hope that I did not take away the other photographer’s achievements in the competition. What I did notice is that I had a number of people very interested in the thought process and the technical process of achieving the […]

Robbed!

Honestly I was hoping to be writing this blog post in celebration. And maybe I should warn you, I may come off as a whiny, spoiled and misunderstood artist as you read this. And, I know a lot of you have been waiting to see this big secret I’ve been brewing since I was in Austin But… I’m incredibly upset by what happened at Tuesday night’s PPSDC, (Professional Photographers of San Diego County), Print Competition… Maybe it’s my fault for expecting to walk out with Best In Show, but I received the highest score out of all entries. I thought […]

Stewart Family | Destination Family Photography | Austin, TX

I was in Texas a few weeks back for a wedding in Houston, which worked out well for a number of photoshoots I had planned in Austin, as well as a nice “last minute” request from an old friend Jenn Stewart (who I knew in Austin, but also in San Diego from years back when her and her sister both ran the ultra cool downtown boutique, Villa Moda). Jenn, her husband Gary and their new addition Kai were looking for a new family photo for the upcoming holidays. Here are a few of my favorites from the session. What a […]

Jessa – Austin Shoot

I had been wanting to work with Jessa for awhile. She is a model in Austin and has worked with some very talented photographers. She’s really great with fine art modeling, and has incredible eyes, which is why I wanted to work with her in the first place. My original concept for Jessa was the first shot you see here.  A “Trash The Dress” idea, (one in a series of Bridal Portraits I will be sending to Grace Ormonde’s Wedding Style), with tuule being representative of the dress. The Congress Street Bridge in the background making this iconically Austin, and […]

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I’m writing this post watching the Monday Night Football game, all bundled up, very sick with the flu after my trip to Texas, (wow, I hope it isn’t the swine flu…) It was a very difficult week with only one day of rest, but very rewarding. Despite coming ill, I feel that during this past week I’ve produced the best work of my life. That being said, I’d like to take the time to say “Thank You” to a number of people that made my trip, and the soon to come photos, possible. First and formost I’d like to thank […]
