El Requesón, Bahia Concepción
One of my favorite places on the planet is a little bay on the Sea of Cortez in Baja California called Bahia Concepcion. In the afternoon, the mountains on the other side of the bay glow an incredible hue of burnt umbre. The area is teeming with life in the sea, the air, and on land too.
This particular day, I was trying to beat a storm that was threatening the entire Baja peninsula. I knew of a couple camps spots right on the water, so I made my way there from Loreto. The clouds were menacing, and I knew we were in for a big downpour, but I wanted to capture the drama unfolding. As I turned a corner on the highway, I saw this cool island connected by a sand bar. I later found out the name of the place. I’d either never seen it, or just never paid attention to it on previous trips. It was a perfect subject. I grabbed the shot, then headed up to Playa El Burro to pitch the tent and hop in right before it started pouring.
