Not Your Typical Sunset

Just to mix things up, I’ve been shooting in low-light situations at the end of the day trying to capture more of a mood than subject matter. These are not your typical sunsets. They’re broody and dark and more thoughtful. To me they evoke a lot of the emotions I get when I look at a Mark Rothko painting.

I’ve been enjoying the results so much, I think it might warrant a show at the end of the year.  What do you think?

  1. Très beaux couchés de soleil, un peu flous, le temps d’exposition devait être assez long étant donné l’obscurité qu’il semblait y avoir.
    Jolie travail.

  2. Oops, sorry for the previous comment, I’m French and I answered in French of course …

Beautiful sunsets, a little fuzzy, the exposure time should be long enough given the darkness there appeared to be.
    Nice work.

  3. Merci Beucoup. No problem, I like to be multi-lingual here. 🙂
Well, I hope they are more than just a “little fuzzy”. This series is inspired by abstract expressionists like Mark Rothko and Howard Hodgkins. It’s more about the emotive qualities than form or subject. So I deliberately unfocussed and used neutral density filters to capture a longer period of time.
Thanks for checking out my work!
