Cinematic Lighting

I am a huge fan of cinema, and film. I’ve always been drawn to the moving picture. I get so wrapped up in them, I could watch movies all day long. Two of my favorite movies were Godfather I & II. The drama, the suspense, the violence… And the production of the movie evoked those concepts in every aspect. What struck me from beginning to end was the lighting. It was much better in G2, but the lighting was fascinating. Along with the music, the lighting was what created the mood of the scene; when someone was about to get […]

Marlene’s Bridal Session | Umlauf Sculpture Garden

I had never been to the Umlauf Sculpture Garden before, but driven by many times on my way to Barton Springs. But when my new client Marlene mentioned she was going to be married there, I jumped at the chance to do a Bridal Photography session there. The grounds are beautifully done, with much of the landscape left untouched and just a pathway winding through the facility. The path is broken up by sculptures the Umlauf Trust has collected, ornamental plants, and a pond. The image here was done almost as our session was done. Marlene was about to go […]

Super 8 is here!!! Weddings are next!

I am really excited abou the next couple of months. I just got some test footage I shot on my super 8mm camera this summer. It has been digitally transfered to edit and post online. I really can’t wait to do this with weddings. As soon as I got home I popped it in the computer and worked on a short piece of our dogs Moen and Luke. Moen is a Lab/Wolf mix and Luke is a Chow/Corgy (chorgy for short). There is more footage from our anniversary tubing trip, that I will post tomorrow. The technical stuff: Film: Tri-X  […]

Experiments in Living – The Absolute Zero Project

Occasionally in life you come across kindreds in such demure methods that really give vindication to theories such as “The Secret”, Law of Attraction, and the pairing of Quantum Physics with Spirituality ala “What the Bleep Do We Know”. Yesterday was a case in point for me. Casually surfing on Craigslist I came upon a random ad asking for a Photographer for a project. I directed my mouse to the website sited and began reading what looked like a manifesto. I continued to read in excitment and discovered that this person was: Giving up his possessions, moving to Austin, and […]

Anniversary Tubing Trip

I should have posted this earlier, but Heather and I celebrated our one year anniversary back in July. We were brainstorming what would be a cool way to celebrate our wedding vows and we decided to invite a few of our friends down to the Comal River and spend the day river tubing. Our neighbor Robert and his boyfriend Andy came, and so did our good friend Beto and his girlfriend Vanessa. It was a great time! There are a couple white water areas, including a big concrete chute that you go down which was really fun, in fact we […]

7 “Before the Wedding” Steps that Initiate a Successful Marriage

I was doing some blog surfing this morning and found this great article on 7 “Before the Wedding” Steps that Initiate a Successful Marriage. It is, for the most part, a very logical look at the “when”, “how” and even the “why” of getting married. But I think that people in love are hardly ever logical when thinking about their love or commitment to each other. One thing that most people will agree on is that they really only want to get married once, and it would be a huge blow to you and your future mate to need counseling […]

Facing Debt after your Wedding

Knowing all to well about the difficulties of dealing with debt, from Heather’s and my own experiences, I figured I would share some advice for those that are newly married or are planning a wedding soon. Our debt load isn’t a tremendous amount, compared to some. We have about $15,000 in credit card debt and 2 years and 3 years left on our car payments. (I’m not including our home mortgage). But if you think about the amount that goes to paying the bills every month it is downright sickening and depressing. Considering the monthly payments suck so much out […]

Green, Hemp, Wedding Dresses

I just came across this great article on environmentally friendly and Green wedding dresses over at Treehugger.com. The article talks about Tara Lynn, a dress designer from Vermont, that designs very lovely dresses out of green products such as silk, cotton, bamboo and hemp! Looking at the dresses, they are very beautiful. But I’ve also heard a rumor that bamboo in clothing is very hard to get into a soft wearable clothing product and the energy and methods in which to do so are actually contradictory to the green movement. I haven’t verified this, but knowing bamboo, I would not […]

WolfPack

This weekend I took part in a workshop with Wolf Pack Film Group an Austin Film Production company. The workshop was mostly for models and actors to build their portfolios. I was interested in working on some experimental work and networking for the headshot photography side of my business. I did have one scary moment as I was standing up near the pool at the $3.5 million house we were shooting at. The strap of my camera grabbed a ledge and slammed back down onto the ground just inches away from the edge of the water!!! I was petrified! After […]
